The R.A.I.N. Practice

Being comfortable with the uncomfortable is not always easy. But sitting and allowing the uncomfortable emotions or experiences to just be, rather than pushing them away can have a more positive impact on your health in the long run.

R – Recognize what emotions are present or bubbling to the surface. Observe what sensations, thoughts and emotions are coming up. i.e., “I am feeling anxious….”

A – Allow whatever is coming up to be just as it is. Soften any resistance you may be feeling.

I – Investigate why you might be feeling this way and how it may be showing up in your body. For example, was there an event that happened ahead of the emotion?

N – Nurture– The stronger the emotion or impact it has on you, the more important it is to nurture and send kindness to yourself. Remember we are not our thoughts and emotions.

The RAIN practice is a great one to do when you’re wanting to move through a challenging moment or you’re feeling overwhelmed with life. Give it a try.
